Phragmites encroachment

Project Description

Document the extent of Phragmites encroachment on the Canadian River, which has entrenched some 60 miles of river and initiate removal. Phragmites has restricted the wetted channel to one-third of its 2000 width and threatens populations of Arkansas River Shiner and Peppered Chub.

Remove Phragmites and restore river to its original broad channel, which supports Arkansas River Shiner and Peppered Chub. Reduce water loss due to transpiration by dense Phragmites stands.
